Club subs for this year are now well overdue and to those of you who have not yet renewed, would you please either send your cheque to Olive or let her know if you will not be rejoining.

Club members are in the wars again! This time Mick Pepper crashed in the VTTA 25 on 5th April that resulted in a splintered right elbow with the tricep tendon being torn off together with severe bruising to his back. An operation to wire the joint together and a week in Ipswich Hospital with the prospect of eight weeks off his bike was the outcome.

Three days later John Parkes slipped on an oil spillage at Rendham and met Mick in Hospital, when he went there to be X-rayed. Luckily no bones were broken but other damage meant that his planned training camp in Majorca, starting on the Saturday, had to be delayed.

Meanwhile on a more peaceful note Ken and Maureen Nichols embarked on an anti-clockwise tour of the Suffolk border. After clocking 225 miles to get to Thetford, time ran out so they returned home, Ken with a heavy cold and Maureen to ride the CC Breckland 25.

Colin Kindred flew off to the sun and spent two weeks cycling in Morocco acquiring an infection and the standard “in flight” cold on his return.

CTC SUFFOLK 50 MILE STANDARD RIDE  20TH APRIL

A cool dull start that improved as the day went on saw nearly 30 riders tackle the course via Debenham, Earl Soham, Snape and Sudbourne.  Included in the field were members Colin Clarke, fresh from his ride in the Stowmarket ‘20’ the previous afternoon and Ken and Maureen.

STOWMARKET & DCC 20 – (BS33) – 19TH APRIL

A cool overcast afternoon with a nagging east wind proved testing on the sporting two lap Debenham, Ashfield Occold course. Andy Pearson led the Club group with an excellent 52.37 backed by Paul Martin, obviously recovered from his illness, 56.37, Barry Lee 1.1.17, Roger 1.1.53 and Colin C 1.12.45. 2nd claim members Tom Walker did 57.15 and Ted 59.48.

EAST ANGLIAN CC 25 – (B25/4) – 20TH APRIL

A drizzly version of the previous afternoon’s conditions persisted with the east wind rising in the riders’ face on the return trip along the A11 to Besthorpe where Bob returned 1.3.49 and John Tovell 1.6.30.

VTTA (East Anglian Group) 10 – (B10/38) – 27TH APRIL

A dull but warm morning with a light headwind on the longer leg to the turn on the A14 Rougham to Woolpit course saw four members riding. John Coles recorded 25.58, brother Ged 27.00, Ken Nichols 29.55 and Maureen 31.49. Ken and Maureen’s rides gained them their Vets standard medals. Ted also rode and did 28.02. It was interesting to note that as many Club members helped in the event as rode it.
