CLUB SUBS

This is the third and final reminder that Club subscriptions were due on 1st January. Therefore, for those of you who have not renewed, I would point out that regrettably this will be the last newsletter you will receive.

PAUL KERSEY

Our thoughts and best wishes are with member Paul Kersey, who suffered a suspected heart attack on the day before Easter and was rushed to hospital where he stayed for 24 hours. Further tests identified angina as the problem and he will be off his bike for a spell.

ECCA

The Club has discharged its marshalling duty to the Eastern Counties C.A thanks to Barry Lee, John Parkes and Mick Pepper when they marshalled at the damp and very windy 10 on 29th March.

COMMITTEE MEETING 31ST MARCH

IPSWICH B.C. RELIABILITY TRIAL – 2ND MARCH

The very high wind of the previous day persisted for the events from Playford Village Hall with 45 riders taking part. John Parkes, Mick Pepper and Ted Saunderson rode the 103 km route via Hollesley, Saxmundham, Framlingham, Clopton and Wickham Market, while Roger Selmes elected for the 70 km version that diverted at Clopton.

RACING NEWS

The first report for 2008 and already two awards for members.

CC BRECKLAND 10 – (B10/18) –1ST MARCH

The fact that a sign was displayed in the HQ warning riders of very strong side winds on exposed parts of the Scoulton-Great Ellingham- Hingham circuit, told riders the earlier fine weather was over and the racing season had started. This contributed to Mick Pepper being on the course for 32.40, while 2nd claim member Ted Saunderson got round in 30.14 and one third of the finishers were outside 20mph.

WEST SUFFOLK WHEELERS 21 – (BS31R) – 8TH MARCH

The very strong wind of the previous Saturday returned to make two laps of the Risby circuit a tough test with the exposed climb from Lackford to the Risby water tower particularly hard. Mick led the first Wolsey team on the road this year with 1.6.01 followed by Colin Clarke 1.14.05 and Olive Forsbrook 1.31.42. Ted also rode and recorded 1.3.27.

EASTERN COUNTIES C A 10 – (E91/10) – 15TH MARCH

A dull, raw and cool morning on the draggy Leaden Roding to Dunmow road reminded riders that it was still March and where Mick did 28.54.

GT YARMOUTH CC 10 – (B10/43) – 21ST MARCH (Good Friday)

Maureen Nichols was the first member to win an award this year when she recorded 37.03 for the 1st lady handicap prize. Supporting her was husband Ken with 33.43, while three other members were included in one third of the field who DNS, presumably because of the very strong side wind, gusting at 50 mph.

PLOMESGATE CC 10 – (B10/9) – 29TH MARCH

The March winds continued to make riding very difficult, this time in Tunstall Forest where gaps in the trees proved a big hazard. Bob Quarton returned 26.35, followed by John Tovell 27.17, who gained 3rd Vet on Std award and Olive Forsbrook 40.36. 2nd claim members Tom Walker and Ted did 27.42 and 29.19 respectively.

HAVERHILL WHEELERS HILLY 20 – (BS/5R) -30TH MARCH

Earlier rain had cleared leaving wet roads on a cool morning but thankfully the previous days wind had died for the event on the Sturmer- Clare- Stradishall circuit. Mick recorded 1.2.54 and Roger Selmes 1.3.25 as the Club’s only representatives.
