MEMBERS
Some of you may be wondering how members who featured in the casualty list in the last newsletter are progressing and I can tell you that it is generally good news.
John Ts injuries have healed well but he is still receiving treatment mainly for his hand and ankle. John wishes to express his thanks to members and friends who have sent him best wishes and visited him in hospital but he feels that full recovery may be a long process. John says this is the first time that he has suffered a broken bone or been in hospital.
After an angiogram John P has been given a clean bill of health and while Mick is still awaiting the same test and is due to have the remaining wires removed from his elbow in October, they have been on their own "cardiac" runs.
Andy, meanwhile, is still undergoing tests to try and determine his problem and has not yet returned to work.
CLUB AGM
A reminder that the Annual General Meeting is being held on 17th November and Maureen will require any resolutions that you would like to be included on Agenda to be with her by 27th October. Resolutions should be in writing and signed by the proposer and a seconder.
CLAIMS FOR CLUB TROPHIES ETC
When you have finished racing Colin Kindred will require your claims for Club Trophies, records and time standards.
GENERAL MEETING - 8TH SEPTEMBER
These details will be submitted to EDCA for inclusion in the programme.
At the EDCA meeting on 18th September the Club Open 25 was accepted into the programme and John T was re-elected on to the Committee.
AUDAXES COMRADES CC -21ST AUGUST/ MILDENHALL CC 23RD AUGUST
Colin Kindred ventured to Henham to ride the Comrades Midweek 104km "Two Halves" Audax, the first part of which took riders southeast and east before back to the HQ and then over the decidedly hillier second half into Hertfordshire. After riding to the start on Wednesday, Colin then rode from Saffron Walden to Mildenhall on Friday, then on Saturday he rode the 103 km Mildenhall Audax from the Rally ground and which covered a circuit taking in Lavenham, Clare and Dalham. After a day at the Rally Colin rode home to complete a 300-mile jaunt.
RACING NEWS
As a result of our injury list, news is a bit leaner but the last month has produced four awards in open events shared equally between Maureen and John C, plus two new FotY lines.
SHAFTESBURY CC 25 (E2/25) 16TH AUGUST
A strong south wind blowing up the A11 section of the Newmarket based course provided a hard mid race eight mile section to the turn but produced fast times. Bob Quarton rode to a new Fastest of the Year with 1.00.06 accompanied by Ged Coles who updated his current fastest to 1.4.23 and Barry Lee 1.5.29. Ted Saunderson also rode and did 1.5.47.
ELY AND D CC 10 (B10/1R) 23RD AUGUST
Roger Selmes travelled to the edge of the Fens in search of SPOCO points where on a pleasant afternoon with a stiff side wind he produced 28.22 on the Sutton course.
CC BRECKLAND 10 (B10/3) 25TH AUGUST
A south wind provided a head wind back from the Borwick turn on the A 11 course but the morning resulted in many smiling faces from riders pleased with their times. John C was top of our group with 24.15 besting Bob 24.24 by nine seconds, while Mark Pearce 25.03 did his best for two years followed by Roger 27.25 and Colin C 27.56. Ted claimed third Vet on Std award with 25.17.
VTTA (East Anglian Group) 25 (E2/25) 30TH AUGUST
An afternoon with a warm moderate southeast breeze on the A14/A11 course from Newmarket to Four Went Ways produced good conditions similar to those of two weeks earlier. John C produced a very pleasing 1.1.17, which was his best since his comeback and gained a Vets Standard medal. Barry improved a minute on his Shaftesbury time with 1.4.31 while Ged did 1.5.10 and Roger also gained his Vets Standard by a margin of three seconds with 1.7.16. Meanwhile Ted, off number one in a full field recorded 1.5.33
NORWICH ABC 10 (B10/43) 6TH SEPTEMBER
Welcoming the dry conditions at the front of the field when the later rain deterred other members from starting John C made full use of the tail wind on the one-mile longer outer leg to record a very pleasing 24.37.
CC BRECKLAND 50 (B50/18R) 7TH SEPTEMBER
A trio of members had smiling faces when they rode on a revised and more compact version of the A11 course, which cut out the double climb of Larling hill on what turned out to be a good day. Perhaps benefiting from his warm up on the previous afternoon John C was again in good form reducing his PB by 10.33 to 2.9.34 which gained him 3rd handicap award. Roger was equally pleased with his 2.24.32, which was his best for eight years, while Maureen almost matched John with her 2.46.26, which was a PB by 10.22 and won her 1st ladies handicap award. As a bonus all three gained their Vets standard at the distance. Ted also rode and did 2.18.18.
PLOMESGATE CC 25 (B25/2) 20TH SEPTEMBER
A sunny afternoon but with usual breeze off the sea made it pleasant and quite good conditions on the two-lap Tunstall circuit. Barry led our depleted group with 1.11.07 followed by Ken Nichols 1.18.42. Maureen riding her 100th time trial had the most successful ride when her 1.24.24 gained her the ladies Vet on standard award. Ted was also riding and did 1.12.20.
CAMBRIDGE (T & C) CC 25 (E2/25B) 20TH SEPTEMBER
Roger travelled to the two lap sporting Stetchworth circuit near Newmarket seeking SPOCO points on the same sunny breezy afternoon where he recorded 1.15.11.
EASTERN COUNTIES CA 10 (E2/10) 26TH SEPTEMBER
Cancelled Fog on road
EAST ANGLIAN CC 10 (B10/44) 26TH SEPTEMBER
A fine sunny afternoon at Earsham with a slightly harder outward trip was the complete opposite to the earlier Cambridgeshire conditions. John C led the Club group with 25.14 followed by Roger 27.18 and a Forsbrook double of Don 35.08 and Olive 35.58. With this ride Don achieved his ambition of racing at the age of 80. Ted was also there for 26.34.
EAST ANGLIAN CC 25 (B25/24C) 27TH SEPTEMBER
Completing the penultimate weekend of the season was basically twice the previous days course in similar conditions but which were decidedly cool for the early starters. John C was our best with 1.4.39, which gained him the Vet on Standard award in the 65 70 age group while Roger did 1.11.02 and Ted who was also riding again 1.8.02.
