      MEMBER'S NEWS
q On a very warm 3rd July which started dull but turned into a very muggy sunny afternoon Mick Pepper was one of 44 riders in the CC Sudbury "Castles, Coast and Cornfields" 161.5 km (100 ml) Audax from Bildeston. The clockwise loop to Orford and back, took in Debenham, Framlingham and Snape returning into the rising headwind through Wickham Market, Westerfield and Offton.
q On the return trip the route went though Bredfield where our second claim member Fergus Muir was competing in the Plomesgate CC grass track meeting on his trike.
q It was again a very warm but this time windier day, when John Williamson accompanied by his tandem with wife Jane aboard rode the CTC Norfolk 104 km (64 ml) "Lesser Garboldisham Grovel" Audax on 11th July. Starting on the Norfolk/Suffolk border the clockwise loop took riders east via Dickleborough, Mendlesham and Haughley to catch a bit of helpful wind back to the start.
q After doing little riding of late, a warm and windy day saw Keith Kingsbury and his daughter Lesley Sathuphap ride the lumpy 25 mile version of the Bike Events "Essex Castle Ride" on 17th July. Starting from Castle Park, Colchester the route took riders along the Stour Valley to Bures before returning via Wakes Colne.

      RACING NEWS
The weather has been kind over the last month with members riding in 17 events, breaking one Club record, winning four awards and setting three new FotY times.

After travelling to the Redbridge Hog Hill circuit for an LVRC event John Parkes clearly finished 6th behind an early breakaway but his placing was not recorded on the result sheet despite photo finish equipment being in operation.
Despite this disappointment John tried again in an LVRC event at the Dunston circuit at Basildon on 24th June. He finished 3rd from nine riders after collecting two primes on the way and was 2nd in the category F age group.
Two days later it was back to Hog Hill again where in the Rapha Condor LVRC event John was 2nd from 13 riders and won the F category.
Misfortune returned for John on 25th July when on the second of 5 x 8 mile loops of the Solihull LVRC Road Race near Stratford on Avon he hit a monster pothole which finished his race.

      CC BRECKLAND 10 - (B10/3) - 30TH JUNE
There were a lot of smiles at Besthorpe for the last Open evening event on the course which caught a warm evening with a gradually dropping breeze. John Parkes recorded his fourth PB in consecutive rides and took 55 seconds off the FoyT line with a startling 23.08 which beat his old PB by 49 seconds. Ged Coles was not to be outdone and narrowly missed a 25 mph ride in recording 24.02 which was a new PB by 19 seconds and took the same amount off his own three week old Vet on Std Club record with a new plus of 9.16. This also won him 2nd in the 70 plus age group on time. John Tovell and John Coles made up the group with good times of 24.39 and 24.41 respectively.

      NORWICH ABC 10 - (B10/43) - 3RD JULY
A very warm muggy afternoon at Wortwell with a breeze that made it slightly easier on the leg to Bungay produced generally good times. John P led us again recording 24.45, but four seconds closer to him than on Wednesday was Ged with 25.35 which gained him 2nd Vet of Std award. Roger Selmes produced his fastest ride of the year with 27.14 followed by Ken Nichols 28.15. Tying on 29.45 were Colin Clarke and Maureen Nichols, but Maureen's ride was the first time she has beaten evens (20mph) since her comeback, gained her VTTA standard medal and is a new FotY by exactly one minute.

      WHITEWEBBS CC 10 - (F20/10 )- 3RD JULY
John C visited the scene of John T's wasted trip the previous Saturday, when he rode the A10 course near Hoddesdon, which features several long drags, in 23.57 exactly matching his fastest ride of the season.

      NORWICH ABC 25 - (B25/4) - 4TH JULY
It was a bright sunny morning but a rising headwind on the long middle leg to Larling on the A11 from Besthorpe, featured strongly. Bob Quarton made a return as our fastest rider with 1.2.38 followed by John P 1.4.35 and Ged, whose 1.5.27 won him his third award of the week with 3rd Vet on Std prize. Roger returned 1.9.29 and Colin C 1.19.01 for his best of the year.

      IPSWICH B C 10 - (B10/9) - 10TH JULY
A very hot and breezy afternoon was served up on the Tunstall forest course where Ged was our fastest with a very good ride for the course of 26.57. John T vacuumed up SPOCO points with 29.05 while Colin C was pleased with his 31.30. Maureen was the first member to claim a Club trophy this year when she recorded 32.57 to retain the Ladies 10 Mile title, a time which also won her 1st ladies prize in the event. 2nd claim member Ted Saunderson resumed racing after a short break and returned 30.22.

      EAST LONDON VELO 10 - (E2/10) -10TH JULY
It was also a very hot afternoon on the A11 from Six Mile Bottom and the stiff wind gave a hard ride to the turn. John C did a commendable ride for the day of 25.06. ahead of John P 25.28 while 2nd claim member Barry Lee recorded a solid 26.40.

      SLEAFORD WHEELERS 25 - (C25/35) - 11TH JULY
A warm breezy morning on his local course, which is L shaped, between Donington and Quarrington in Lincolnshire saw Mark Pearce record 1.6.28.

      VC CHESTERFIELD 10 - (010/1) -17TH JULY
Although Mark may be riding midweek Club time trials he doubled his tally of local opens when he rode the event in the Doncaster area from Hatfield Woodhouse on a breezy afternoon which provided a mainly crosswind and recorded 25.32.

NORTH MIDDX AND HERTS CA 100 - (F1/100) 18TH JULY
A warm early morning with little wind promised much but did not deliver on the three lap course on the A1 which then diverted onto the new A 421. Andy Pearson completing his first Open event for over two months, started with a 2.16 first 50 but in the end settled for 4.49.13 as the wind rose steadily to biblical proportions over the exposed course. Because there is a time limit for riders to leave the A1 several competitors were prevented from completing the event as they were over time, due to the severity of the conditions.

      EAST DISTRICT CA CHAMPIONSHIP 25 - (B25/6) -18TH JULY
The wind that Andy was experiencing on the A 1 had already risen by the 8.30 start time for the event over two trips each way along the Wisbech bypass, where the biggest protection from the wind is an Armco barrier. A Club duo survived well with Bob recording 1.3.10 and John C 1.5.11.

      WWW.TTWEEKLY.COM 10 - (B10/34) 24TH JULY
This was the reorganised event cancelled on 29th May because of rain. No rain this time but a stiff and rising west wind made for a very fast longer first leg and an increasing harder return on the A14 between Higham and Westley where John P recorded 24.33 and John C 24.56.

      DISS AND DISTRICT CC 25 - (B25/17) - 25TH JULY
A dull but breezy morning with a headwind to the turn produced good conditions for once on the Bressingham to Thetford road with the course record being broken twice. Bob led a Club team with 1.5.07 but John C was a bit closer this week recording 1.6.56. Colin C made up the team with 1.21.07 while Ted retuned l.14.45.

      NEWMARKET CYCLING AND TRIATHLON CLUB 21 - (BS36) - 1ST AUGUST
Roger made a lone trip to ride the hilly circuit course centred at Ashley which was used regularly in the 1990's for hilly events. On a dull fine and warm morning Roger recorded 1.5.40
