The Club was excused marshalling duties when the ECCA 10 on 17th June was cancelled due to the fact that only 10 entries were received.

      COMMITTEE MEETING - 24th June
q Apologies - Colin K, John P, Mark and Bob
q Membership to Ipswich Voluntary Community Services does not influence bookings for the meeting room at Tower Street and the Club will not rejoin.
q John C and John T will carry out the Club's marshalling commitment at the EDCA '100'
q John P and Mick were not called upon to marshal at the ECCA 10 on 17th June as the event was cancelled.
q The satisfactory promotion of the Open 25 was discussed and some possible improvements were considered.
q The cheque for the levies for the 25 has not been received, which will be further investigated.
q At present it is thought that the corresponding date for next year's '25' would be suitable.
q Inconsistencies in the numbering of the two '25' courses at Bungay in both handbooks were noted and Maureen was requested to write to the District Secretary before that committee's next meeting.
q Last year's members have renewed, with the addition of three new members.
q Further ideas to commemorate the Club's 50th Birthday next year were discussed.
q Maureen requested the date of the General Meeting be brought forward a week to 6th September.
q Date of the next meeting - 5th August.

      MEMBER'S NEWS
q On 29th May despite the forecast of a day of rain Colin Kindred, Mick Pepper John Williamson (on his tandem) and Barry Lee were among 60+ entrants who rode the CC Sudbury 104 km (64 mile) "Four Fords" Audax from Long Melford. The challenging course took riders through Buxhall, Kersey, Hadleigh. Nayland and Bures and included one of the two steepest hills in Suffolk, the aptly named Blood Hill as well as the Semer hillclimb. The rain started at about 30 miles and continued for the rest of the ride causing the cancellation of the time trial on a nearby course.
q An awful weather forecast and heavy rain with thunder the night before did not deter Colin Clarke and Mick from riding the Bike Events "Norwich 100" on 6th June, along with several hundred others. The clockwise loop from Norwich took riders through Reepham, Sherringham then down the east coast and inland through Coltishall to Norwich. The overnight rain left minor roads in the north of the county strewn with debris, gravel and grit resulting in many punctures including three for our duo.
q Mick was one of 72 riders from all over the south of England who rode the Essex CTC Triennial Veterans 100 Mile ride from Mountnessing on 20th June. Riding into the cold northerly wind to the first check at Aythorpe Roding the course took two further loops from that check, before a ride back to the start point in long awaited sunshine.
q On 27th June the temperature was more than double that of the previous Sunday ie. 13 to 29 degrees plus providing the hottest day of the year which coincided with Colin C and Mick and 56 others riding the 112 km (70 miles) "Windmill" Audax ride from Chelmsford. The route took an anticlockwise loop to Finchingfield and then the more challenging section via Saffron Walden to the control at the Victoria CC hut at Elsenham, before the run back to Chelmsford.
q Colin K spent two weeks in mid June on a CTC tour in the Pyrenees. The weather was intermittent to say the very least, during which Colin accumulated 500+ miles and a heavy cold.
q Up until 9th June four members have ridden in midweek ICA events - Colin C, Dave Higgins, Fergus Muir and Andy Pearson.
q Having reached her 80th Birthday and having been a member of the Veteran Time Trials Association for at least 25 years, Olive Forsbook has been awarded Honorary Life Membership of the VTTA.

      RACING NEWS
The season has now hotted up in more ways than one with riders competing in 15 events since the last report, breaking three Club records, winning awards in five events plus creating five new FotY times.
      SHAFTESBURY CC MM 25 - (E2/25) - 8TH MAY
The arrival of the result sheet showed that Andy Pearson gained 5th improvement award with his PB 1.00.43.
      EASTERN COUNTIES CA 50 - (E2/50c) - 23RD MAY
Weatherwise this was the weekend of the year so far with warm temperatures and a light variable wind providing very even conditions on the A11/A14 course. John Cole made good use of the afternoon with a PB 2.07.56 which not only gained his VTTA standard medal at the distance but broke Mick Pepper's eleven year old Vet on Std Club record by 3.31 with a new plus figure of 39.34. After the close call with his problem saddle in the Shaftesbury 25 Andy had another mishap when at 17 miles he broke a spoke in the front wheel leaving just 15, making it unsafe to continue.
      CC BRECKLAND 10 - (B10/3) - 26TH MAY
The temperature had dropped 10 degrees in a day to provide a cool evening with a headwind to the Browick turn on the A11 in the first evening event on the course which gave preference to the slowest riders. John Parkes led us with 24.50 for a FotY by one second, followed by the previous holder John C with 25.15 and Jim Stow who rolled his big fixed for 25.58. Ged Coles making his debut for the season recorded 26.30 to collect 5th Vet on Std award while Roger Selmes did 27.27 and John T who had a troublesome ride clocked 27.37.
      www.TTweekly.com 10 - (B10/34) - 29TH MAY
Event cancelled - rain on course. (It's a Bank Holiday!)

      EAST DISTRICT CA (District Championship) 10 - (B10/3) - 31ST MAY
Typical Bank holiday weather continued with a cool damp blustery morning for the second event in four days on the A 11 course from Besthorpe with the turn made treacherous by the wet roads. The conditions probably contributed to five Club non starters and the puncture John P collected in the first mile. Of the remainder John T was back to form with 25.14 which gained him the bronze medal for 3rd Vet on Std in the Championship, while Mark Pearce was close up with 25.22 and Roger recorded 27.57.
      EASTERN COUNTIES CA CHAMPIONSHIP 10 - (E2/10) - 5TH JUNE
A very warm afternoon with a light variable wind produced good times on the A11 course from Six Mile Bottom. John C who produced the Club's first 25 mph ride of the year led the Club with 23.57 taking almost one minute off the week old FotY, was backed by brother Ged who recorded a 24.21 PB and with a plus of 8.57 broke John T's year old Vet on Std Club record by 10 seconds. Jim matched Ged's time exactly while John P recorded 24.24 and 2nd claim member Barry Lee also rode.
      ECCA CHAMPIONSHIP 25 - (E2/25) - 6TH JUNE
The overnight and early morning rain and thunder probably helped three quarters of the Club entry decide not to travel to Newmarket for the A14/A11 event. The exception was John P who was rewarded with a PB 1.4.38 taking 53 seconds off his old mark on a damp morning with a rising headwind on the return leg.
      VTTA (EAST ANGLIAN GROUP) 25 - (E2/25) - 12TH JUNE
A warm fine but windy afternoon produced good times all round as riders on the return leg were sheltered from the north west wind by the lie of the A14/A12 course around Newmarket with all the Clubs' riders recording at least their fastest of the year. Our leader on the day was John C who gained his VTTA standard medal with 1.1.02 but close behind was Ged whose 1.1.20 was the fastest since his comeback and beat his own year old Vet on Std Club record by a massive 3.34 with a plus of 23.40 for his second Club record in a week. John P demolished his week old PB by 2.30 to record 1.2.08 while Roger did 1.5.02 which was his fastest for eleven years and gained his VTTA standard medal. Ken and Maureen were pleased with their first ride on the course both gaining their VTTA standard medals with Ken taking 4.52 off his previous best since his comeback by recording 1.8.00 while Maureen likewise improved by 3.36 to 1.13.30. Maureen's time in fact was only 1.27 short of her lifetime best recorded in her previous career which ended in 1987. Barry also rode and did a solid 1.5.00.
      PLOMESGATE CC 25 - (B25/2R) - 12TH JUNE
The same good conditions prevailed around two laps of the Tunstall circuit but without the advantages of a dual carriageway. Bob Quarton led a Club trio with 1.7.16 backed by John T. 1.11.30 which gained him 3rd Vet of Std award and Colin C 1.20.12.
CC BRECKLAND (DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP) CIRCUIT 25 - (BS35) -13TH JUNE
Our sole representative, Mark did 1.7.42 over two laps of the Scouldon circuit starting from Hingham on a cool morning with a nagging north wind.
      EAST ANGLIAN CC 10 -(B10/3) - 17TH JUNE
It was again a cool evening on the A11 from Besthorpe with the north east wind making it a cold hard start. John C was our fastest with 24.51, John T backing up with 25.41 while Colin C returned 28.37 his fastest of the year.
      VTTA (EAST ANGLIAN GROUP) 25 - (E2/25) -19TH JUNE
A very blustery north wind with squally showers sometimes torrential, made it an unpleasant afternoon on the A14/A11 which produced 50% non starters including half the Club entry. However, John P ignoring the elements and without a warm up because of the rain produced a sterling 1.00.58 taking a further 1.10 off his week old PB which he has now improved by 3.40 in the last three weekends. Roger provided back up with a solid 1.7.41 for the day.
      IPSWICH B. C 25 - (B25/2) - 19TH JUNE
John T faced the same conditions as at Newmarket but had the added handicap of the sporting two lap Tunstall course with its corners made treacherous by the rain but nevertheless recorded 1.14.52. Non starters do not usually get a mention in our newsletters but Colin C fell victim to a mistake that many riders have made in the past when he arrived at the event without his shoes.
      HERTFORDSHIRE WHEELERS 10 - (F20/10) - 26TH JUNE
After a 74 mile journey to the evening event near Hoddesdon John T had the misfortune to puncture when he hit a pothole coming out of the turn and DNF.
      GODRIC CC 50 - (B50/18) -27TH JUNE
A warm morning with a light variable breeze saw a trio of members riding the two lap A 11 course from Besthorpe. Roger carried on from where he left off two weeks ago by recording 2.19.08 which was his best ride at the distance for 14 years gained him his VTTA standard and justifiably rewarded him with 3rd handicap prize in the event. Ken and Maureen newly back from a trip to the USA returned 2.29.38 and 2.41.36 respectively.
