by the time you receive this newsletter, would you please do
so to Colin Clarke or let us know that you will not be renewing,
as this will be your last newsletter.
ECCA MARSHALLING.
Jim Stow and John Tovell fulfilled the Club's marshalling commitment
at the '10' on 14th March at Six Mile Bottom. Thank you both.
COMMITTEE MEETING - 7th APRIL
q Apologies Mark and Bob
q It was confirmed the Club would again subscribe to ICVS which
gives us priority when booking the Tower St Meeting Room.
q John Coles attended Ron Philpot's funeral and as such also
represented the Club.
q It was agreed that the Club would make a donation to the NCCU,
one of the two charities chosen by Ron's family.
q Colin advised that nearly all members had renewed their membership.
q John T and Mick were confirmed as Club marshals for the EDCA
100 on 21st June.
q The point was made that, as the duty is shared by two clubs,
we should not be expected to cover the whole event.
q The Club has received a request from EDCA to provide two marshals
for the National Championship 25 at Attleborough on 7th June.
Offers of help to Colin K, please.
q Mick mentioned the fact, that in Essex, 999 ambulance call
outs required a postcode.
It would seem sensible therefore that the postcode of race HQ's
should appear on start sheets in East District.
q Date of Next Meeting - 26th May
RACING NEWS
The season is now well underway for members with the bonus that
the weather at Easter was the best for several years. It has
been left to Maureen to provide the first Wolsey prizewinner
of the year.
WEST SUFFOLK WHEELERS 21 (BS21R) - 14TH MARCH
The new time trial season for the Wolsey started here with two
laps of the Risby circuit and a weather forecast of "a light
W / SW wind, increasing fresh" which proved more than correct.
Barry Lee began his season with a very sound 1.4.03 accompanied
by Roger Selmes 1.7.28 and Olive Forsbrook 1.35.38. 2nd Claim
member Ted Saunderson was also present for1.6.09.
PLOMESGATE CC 10 - (B10/9) - 28TH MARCH
Nine Club names featured on the start sheet but for various reasons
just four faced the cool, showery and blustery ride through Tunstall
Forest from Sudbourne A slimmer version of John Parkes led our
depleted contingent with 29.56 followed by Ken Nichols 32.00,
Roger 32.08 and Maureen 35.02 while Ted's 34.10 included a deviation
off course at the turn.
CHELMER CC HILLY 25.5 - (E99/25) - 29TH MARCH
Colin Clarke rode in the first edition of a new event run as
a memorial to Chelmer Club member, Jim Perrin who was killed
riding a time trial in 2003. The event on a very cold morning
with no wind on a poorly surfaced circuit starting at Finchingfield
and taking in Yeldham, Haverhill and Steeple Bumpstead saw Colin
record 1.29.05. However he was lucky to finish because with three
miles to go a noise developed behind him and at the finish Colin
discovered that the chainstay of his frame had broken.
VTTA (East Anglian Group) OPEN 25 - (E33/25) - 4TH APRIL
A breezy afternoon made the first leg very hard on the sporting
triangular course from Stetchworth that had to be covered twice.
Bob Quarton was our fastest with 1.8.20 backed by Roger 1.15.45
and John P 1.19.01.
HAVERHILL WHEELERS HIL;LY 20 - (BS5R) - 5TH APRIL
The wind had gone by next morning providing the best conditions
seen for many years for this event. Barry took 58.24 to cover
the circuit from Kedington via Clare and Stradishall while Roger,
after his warm up the previous afternoon, recorded 1.00.30 and
Colin 1.3.42. Ted also rode and returned 1.1.13.
GT YARMOUTH CC 10 - (B10/43R) - 10TH APRIL
This first event of the year on the popular course from Wortwell
to Bungay but with different start and finish points, provided
an attraction for Club members who enjoyed excellent conditions
for the time of year. Bob was again our fastest rider with 24.48
followed by John Tovell 26.55 and John Coles 27.02. However the
latter placing would have been reversed if John C had not lost
approximately half a minute at the start. The followed a close
bunch of John P 28.39, Roger 28.40 and Colin C 28.54 while Ken
returned 29.27. However it fell to Maureen to be the Club's first
prizewinner of the season when she recorded 31.06 to win the
1st lady on handicap award. In addition, Maureen and Ken both
achieved a VTTA standard medal at the distance and Maureen's
time was the best of her comeback.
VC BARACCHI 25 - (BS13A) - 12TH APRIL
An initially cool misty morning on the two lap Somerleyton circuit
changed to heavy rain on the second lap for Colin and he recorded
1.23.00.
