GENERAL MEETING 7th September
q Present 10 apologies 3
q The Club will renew its affiliation to Cycling Time Trials,
British Cycling and Eastern Counties CA. Discussion took place
before affiliation to the latter was agreed. The number of rides
by Club members for the last three years was noted and it was
expected that the number of marshals required would probably
as this year (5).
q It is proposed to run an Open 25 in 2010 and as the Club
will lose its traditional date to the National Championship 100
next year. 16th May has been the date selected to submit to
the District. Organiser Mark Pearce, course 25/50, start 0700,
entry £7.50. The TA would like to combine their event with
us again..
q John T and Mick will be the Club's delegates at the EDCA AGM
on 1st October.
q Treasurer Colin Clarke requested that any claims for expenses
be with him buy 30th September.
q The joint CTC and Wolsey Prize Presentation Lunch would be
on 7th February 2010 at the Holiday Inn, Ipswich with guest speaker
- Mick Gambling.
q Date of next Committee Meeting 5th October.
COMMITTEE MEETING 5th October
q Apologies Colin C, Mark and Bob
q Now the new financial year has started a new race finish flag
and a 100 memory watch will be purchased.
q At the East District AGM at Redgrave on 1st October the date
of the Club Open 25 was confirmed as 16th May 2010 on course
25/50.
q An advert would be placed in the local handbook to promote
the event.
q John T has been re-elected to the Committee of the EDCA.
q The matter of the desirability of the fitting of rear lights
in ICA evening 10s, particularly the late events, was discussed.
We were advised that the District Council will be submitting
a proposal to the National AGM covering this issue and therefore
the Club will be able to vote on the matter.
q The Committee agreed to submit a resolution to the Club AGM
in order to revise the rules governing awarding of the Road Race
Trophy.
q Next meeting, Club Annual General Meeting 16th November
RESOLUTIONS FOR THE AGM
Maureen Nichols will need to receive any resolutions to be included
in the Agenda by 26th October. These should be in writing and
signed by the proposer and seconder.
CLAIMS FOR 2009
As soon as you have finished racing Colin Kindred would like
to receive your claims for Club Standards, Club Records and any
Trophies you think you may be in the running for.
MEMBER'S NEWS
q Mick was the sole Club rider in the field of 86 for the CTC
Suffolk 124km "The Suffolk Saunter" Audax from Blaxhall
on a very windy 3rd October. The anti clockwise route provided
a rapid start to Aldeburgh and Dunwich after which the course
turned west for the 40 mile leg to Westerfield into an increasingly
strong head wind that caused the cancellation of the NABC 10
at Bungay. Although turning away from the wind the final leg
provided a hilly sting in the tail of the event.
q Colin K returned from a 670 mile, two week tour in Corsica
but succumbed to the dreaded flight bug and missed the Audax
event.
RACING NEWS
The season is almost over for another year but this month still
shows six awards for Club riders.
Remember there is still one Club Trophy yet to be allocated,
the Hill Climb at Semer on 1st November. Enter as the CTT Handbook
on a normal TT entry form.
EASTERN COUNTIES CA 10 - E91/10 - 2ND SEPTEMEBER
It was a dry but windy afternoon on the Leaden Roding - Dunmow
Road but for a change it was easier on the longer return leg
where Colin Clarke recorded 30.52.
COLCHESTER R CC 25 - E7/25 - 5TH SEPTEMBER
Two members rode the sporting anticlockwise two lap course from
Little Bromley on a fine afternoon that produced some good times
for the course. After having his time extended by a slow moving
tractor on the A133 Clacton road Bob Quarton returned 1.7.40
while Barry Lee did 1.13.30
NORWICH ABC 10 - B10/43 - 12TH SEPTEMBER
A bright sunny afternoon in the Waveney valley from Wortwell
provided a hard ride to the turn but although the return was
not as fast as expected some good times resulted. Bob led the
Club group with 24.49, followed by another good ride from John
Parkes who returned 25.02 while John Tovell was close behind
with 25.05 which won him the 3rd Vet on Std award. John Coles
returned 25.30 followed by brother Ged 26.26 while Ted Saunderson
also rode and did 27.33.
PLOMESGATE CC 25 - B25/2 - 19TH SEPTEMBER
A fine Indian Summer afternoon graced the event rather than the
cool draught off the North Sea usually felt for two laps of the
Tunstall circuit. John T had a good day when he recorded 1.8.03
to win the 1st Vet on Std award while Colin C did 1.20.53. Unfortunately
Ged failed to finish because of cramp but Ted rode and returned
1.14.59.
CC BRECKLAND 50 - B50/18 - 20TH SEPTEMBER
Although the wind direction was not ideal for the two and half
lap course on the A11 between Browick and Eccles, it did provide
a fast finish and many smiling faces, among whom was John C our
only rider who was pleased with his 2.13.16.
WORCESTERSHIRE "AUTUMN ROAD RACE" - 20TH SEPTEMBER
John P returned to his earlier riding area to ride, in a field
of 40 plus riders, the 42 mile LVRC event on the Inkborrow circuit
that he knew from his youth and finished in the main bunch.
ECCA 10 - E2/10 - 26TH SEPTEMBER
The Indian Summer continued with a warm afternoon on the A11
from Six Mile Bottom with a light wind that varied in direction
during the event. John P led our team with 24.06, just seven
seconds outside his recent PB, which he would have broken if
he had not been brought to a standstill by traffic at the turn.
Backing John were Jim Stow 24.38 and John C 24.43.
EAST ANGLIAN CC 10 - B10/44 - 26TH SEPTEMBER
It was equally pleasant in the Waveney valley between Earsham
and Redenhall where Ged recorded 25.33 which was a good ride
for the single carriageway course that gives few favours. Ted
also rode and did 27.21.
EAST ANGLIAN CC 25 - B25/24C - 27TH SEPTEMBER
It was a chilly start at the same venue the next morning with
a rising west wind providing a harder start to Redenhall on the
two lap course. John C was well warmed up after his 10 the previous
afternoon and won the 65 - 70 age group award on Vet Std with
1.5.38 while John T recorded 1.7.50.
REDBRIDGE CYCLE CIRCUIT - HOG HILL- 27TH SEPTEMBER
After a warm up in their respective 10s the previous afternoon
Ged and John P travelled to East London to ride the LVRC promoted
George Drewell Memorial event. George Drewell was a Condor professional
team-mate of Ged's in the l960s so the event was particularly
significant. Run over 50 minutes on the small circuit, with a
prime every lap of which John won two, then two and half laps
on the large circuit featuring the Hoggenberg climb saw the field
of 43 riders contest the finish. John and Ged were comfortably
in the top 20 in that order with Ged being awarded 2nd place
in the 70-75 year age group (category G).
NORWICH ABC 10 - B10/44 - 3RD OCTOBER
Event cancelled - wind on course
NORWICH ABC 25 - B25/24C - 4TH OCTOBER
Although yesterday's gale force wind had dropped there was doubt
that summer had gone with a cold morning and a hard headwind
start on the two lap course from Earsham. It was good to see
Andy Pearson making his first appearance of the year after a
difficult time since his fall over a year ago to record 1.6.20.
John P put in a good effort to record 1.7.12 followed by an equally
pleased Ged who gained 4th Vet on Std award with 1.8.22. Colin
C completed the Club rides with 1.20.30.
