**************************************************************************

First of all a Happy and successful 2011 to you all, in whatever you do.

Enclosed are the latest editions of Club records and Club rules both dated January 2011. The former has been updated to include the records broken last year and in the Rulebook, Rule 7 has been amended in accordance with the resolution passed at the AGM. These now supersede all previous issues.

JOHN TOVELL
The Club was stunned to hear of the death of John who was found dead in his home on 17th January. John joined the Suffolk Roads CC in 1956 and moved to the Colchester Rovers CC in 1969, before becoming a stalwart member of the Wolsey in 1973. John had held several posts in the Club, was a prolific award winner and one of our current timekeepers. Perhaps it is appropriate that he clinched the King Vet Trophy in the 2010 season long SPOCO (East) competition in his very last race in October. He will be sorely missed by many.
His funeral will be at the Seven Hills Crematorium, Ipswich on 10th February at 12 noon.

NEW MEMBERS
We are pleased to welcome as a 1st Claim member Trevor Roberts of Ipswich. We hope to see him participating in 2011.

CLUB SUBS
First reminders to many of you that Club subs were due on 1st January. Would you please pay them to Colin Clarke, 336 Felixstowe Road, Ipswich IP3 9AA. Cheques payable to Wolsey Road Club. £10 for senior 1st claim or £5 for 2nd claim and under 18.

CLUB TIME STANDARDS
Colin Kindred, Tel: 01473 463009, can take your entries for Club time standards. 60p per distance covers you for all rides during the year for which you gain a certificate if you beat the times set out in the Club rules. Alternatively you can pay £2 extra at the end of the season for each standard gained and receive a medal instead. If you gain three standards you can opt for a plaque instead of medals.

CLUB DINNER
As you all know by now the Annual Lunch and Prize Presentation is on 6th February for which Maureen would be grateful for any donations for raffle prizes.

IPSWICH CYCLING ASSOCIATION EVENTS
A reminder to go in your diaries is that the Ipswich Bicycle Club events at Crowfield will be held on TUESDAYS this year, instead of the usual Wednesday that we have got used to. All other events remain on Wednesdays.

MEMBER'S NEWS
- Colin K continued with his tradition of taking part in the CTC Annual Christmas tour at York, but this time with another twist. In the past Colin would ride all or most of the way there and back and ride two Audaxes in between. In 2009 he did not take his bike, allegedly because of the weather and went for walks instead. This time he took his bike for the train ride but didn't use it because of bad road conditions and again opted for walks.
- Some members attended the funeral of Jack Pickess on 5th January. Jack, who had been a member of the Ipswich Bicycle Club for 70 years, was also a member of the CTC and VTTA and a noted grass track and time trial rider. In 1953 he was a member of the IBC team that broke the Club 25 mile team record of which a current Wolsey member was a counter. Incidentally his widow Marie held the IBC ladies 10 and 25 mile records at that time.
- Most riders probably had their riding restricted by two spells of winter in 2010 and Mick P was no exception. His mileage of 6,216 was below his expectation for the year but saw him rise one place in the 300,000 Mile Club's mileage list to 26th out of 67, with a total of 472,269 recorded miles.
