MEMBERS' NEWS
- Summer appeared to have ended during the week as by Saturday
8th October the temperature was at least half that of the previous
weekend. The day saw Karen Eaton and John Williamson with Jane
on the back of the tandem among the 113 riders in the 124km CTC
Suffolk "The Suffolk Saunter" Audax from Blaxhall. The
large anticlockwise route took riders to Aldeburgh and Dunwich
before a 60km headwind section to Framlingham and Westerfield
was followed by a help over the bumpy return to the start.
- Colin Kindred missed the Audax this year as instead he rode
to the Derbyshire Peak District via Chatteris, Loughborough and
Ashbourne for a short CTC tour. After a weekend riding in the
damp he headed south to Leamington Spa for a reunion related to
his tour in Provence and spent three days riding in the area before
the ride home via Market Harborough and Ely to finish a 700 plus
mile fortnight.
- A beautiful sunny day with a cool start saw Karen riding the
70km Stowmarket & DCC Reliability Trial from Needham Market
on 16th October. The event which was unusual as these events are
traditionally run early in the year to provide a background for
racing went via Stowmarket to Capel St Mary and Willisham before
the return to the start.
- Trevor Roberts is looking to set up Saturday training rides;
circa 60-90 mins leaving north Ipswich at 8am. Normally heading
out via Henley, Otley etc. Pace around 17mph average or to suit
the group. If interested in joining me please contact 01473 464215/
07961 915478 (Trevor.roberts1@btconnect.com).
RACING NEWS
Surely a successful end to the racing season with four time trials
ridden producing five awards plus one PB and one FotY. The year
as a whole has been very successful with 16 members racing collecting
39 awards of which Ged Coles won 19 of them and broke three Club
records while Karen Eaton broke two Club records.
LEO ROAD CLUB 30 - (E2/30) - 1ST OCTOBER
With the temperature approaching 30 degrees C it was a very warm
afternoon on the Newmarket to Sawston course with a light wind
resulting in riders producing their own headwind but fast times.
Karen riding her first event at the distance recorded 1.21.57
which included a ¾ mile detour off course.
NORWICH ABC 10 - (B10/43) - 1ST OCTOBER
The same conditions were met in the Waveney valley from Wortwell
where the general opinion was that it was hard both ways. John
Parkes produced a very creditable 24.03, which gained him 5th
Vet on Std award while Ged not to be outdone recorded 25.23 to
win 1st Vet on Std prize.
NORWICH ABC 25 - (B25/50) - 2ND OCTOBER
It was much cooler for the early start on the same road from Wortwell
next morning but conditions were good which saw a quarter of the
field beating the hour. Bob Quarton was our best with 1.1.57 followed
by John P 1.2.56 for 3rd Vet on Std award and backed by Ged whose
1.5.47 won him 1st Vet on Std.
TEAM CAMBRIDGE 10 - (F16/10) - 16TH OCTOBER
Colin Clarke travelled to Cambridgeshire to catch the last SPOCO
(East) event of the season on the single carriageway A603 which
features a long climb in each direction. Compared with recent
temperatures in the high 20 degrees C it was now a misty, legwarmers
and gloves morning in which Colin recorded 33.05 and won 2nd award
in Group F comprising riders who had recorded similar times on
their entry form.
CC SUDBURY HILL CLIMB - (BHC/1) - 6TH NOVEMBER
A cold breezy damp morning saw 28 riders including five ladies
competing at Semer. There Karen retained the Tyland Trophy and
so became the Club Hill climb Champion with a time of 1.21.00
some 12 seconds faster than last year. Again Colin K made the
event possible by being the finish timekeeper.
