CLAIMS FOR 2011
When you have finished racing don't forget to let Colin Kindred, 27 Diamond Close Ipswich, IP1 5HN Tel: 01473 463009 have claims for the Club trophies, records and time standards you feel you may have won. If in doubt, ask. Also don't forget to claim for EDCA Championships - details in local handbook.

RAY LEGG
The unexpected death of the popular West Suffolk Wheelers member on the eve of supporting a colleague in the ECCA 12 hour on 21st August saw a packed chapel at the West Suffolk Crematorium. Six Club members were among the gathering who had been encouraged to ride from and back to Risby Village Hall, which for many years was the local race HQ and where the reception was held

TOUR OF BRITAIN
Stage 7 of the Tour passed through Ipswich on 17th September en route between Bury St Edmunds and Sandringham, and went through Christchurch Park where various activities took place and as part of this Ken and Maureen had a stand to promote the CTC and Wolsey Clubs.

ICA LEAGUE
Six members took part in what is now a 22 event series in which riders had to complete 12 events to qualify. Best placed was Trevor Roberts in 5th place while others who rode were Fergus Muir, Dave Higgins, Colin Clarke, Andy Pearson and Gordon Brown.

MEMBERS' NEWS
- Colin Kindred and Colin Wilkinson were among the 137 riders in the 115 km CTC Suffolk Mildenhall Rally Audax on 27th August run in conjunction with the three-day rally. An anticlockwise route took riders through Stradishall Long Melford and Lavenham on a day of occasional heavy showers.
Ken and Maureen Nichols manned the early control at Stradishall before Maureen went off to ride the Anglia Velo 10 in the afternoon.
- On 27thSeptember Colin Kindred arrived back after being part of a group of eight who undertook a short CTC Suffolk tour of Kent, which was favoured by glorious weather throughout.

RACING NEWS
The last full month of racing this season saw us riding 13 time trials, winning seven awards - six of them by Ged Coles, recording three new FotY rides and two PBs.

SPOCO SC ( Spoco South East) 10 - (E91/10) 24TH AUGUST
Colin Clarke was on the hunt for SPOCO competition points when he rode the Leaden Roding- Dunmow course on a dry breezy afternoon recording a satisfactory 29.5

ANGLIA VELO 10 - (B10/35) - 27TH AUGUST
It was a breezy afternoon with occasional heavy showers, which luckily missed our duo on the A14 between Risby and Kentford. Ged Coles recorded 25.02 to collect the 75+ age group award while Maureen Nichols riding only her third event of the season, did 31.44 to win the ladies 2nd handicap award.
VC NORWICH 10 - (B10/3) - 29TH AUGUST
I
t was a very breezy morning on the A11 from Besthorpe and which ended the Bank Holiday weekend. Ged led a team of 26's with 26.12 which won him the 70+ age group award followed by Trevor Roberts with a PB 26.35 taking 44 seconds off his previous best and Mark Pearce 26.37.
EASTERN COUNTIES CA 10 - (E91/10C) - 31ST AUGUST
Colin C made another midweek trip to find a course change because of tree felling work. This meant the course went in the opposite direction from Margaret Roding to Writtle where on a cool dull but reasonable afternoon Colin recorded 29.31.
STOWMARKET AND DCC 10 - (B10/38) - 4TH SEPTEMBER
After a glorious Friday and Saturday, Sunday dawned cool, dull and breezy on the A14 between Rougham and Woolpit with divided opinions as to which was the harder leg. Bob Quarton led a depleted group with 24.18 backed by John Parkes 24.24 and Ged 25.09 for his almost customary first in the 70+ age group, and Karen 26.43. 2nd claim member Fergus Muir rode his trike for 33.27, but none of this would have been possible without Colin Kindred who was the finish timekeeper.
NORWICH ABC 10 - (B10/43) - 10TH SEPTEMBER
A dry dull but warm and of course breezy afternoon at Wortwell gave a slightly faster trip on the longer outward leg. John P led us this time with 23.54 closely followed by Bob 23.57 and then Ged 24.46, which this time gained him 1st Vet on Std award.
CAMBRIDGE (T& C) CC 25 - (E33/25) - 10TH SEPTEMBER
The same very breezy conditions met Trevor on the testing triangular two lap course from Stetchworth south of Newmarket where considering the conditions he recorded a satisfactory 1.12.58.
EAGLE RC 50 - (E1/50) - 11TH SEPTEMBER
One of the last chances to glean SPOCO (SE) competition points attracted Colin C to the sporting course from Ugley to Stetchworth, although it does feature the E2 10 course in the middle. Short sharp hills, twisty roads, two level crossings and a strong headwind on the return saw Colin, in common with several others, record a "personal worst" of 2.48.24.
CC BRECKLAND 50 - (B50/18) - 18TH SEPTEMBER
A cool, still ,early morning but with a rising south-west breeze greeted riders for the 2½ lap A11 course from Besthorpe. Bob set a new FotY with 2.4.10 while John P riding his first ever 50 in 2.7.30 was just 49 seconds short of the Club Vet on Std record.
EASTERN COUNTIES CA 10 - (E2/10) - 24TH SEPTEMBER
A dull, warm afternoon with a variable wind making riders unsure which was the harder leg was the fare on the A11 from Six Mile Bottom. Bob produced 23.33, his fastest ride of the season and a new FotY by three seconds while John Coles recorded 25.05.
EAST ANGLIAN CC 10 - (B10/44/) -24TH SEPTEMBER
A Club duo went in the opposite direction and encountered the same conditions at Earsham in the Waveney Valley. Ged returned a very good 24.54 for the course which won him 1st Vet on Std award while Roger Selmes recorded 29.14 and 2nd claim member Ted Saunderson 28.28.
CC BRECKLAND 25 - (B25/24C) - 25TH SEPTEMBER
It was back to Earsham next morning for basicafflly two trips over yesterday's course on what was a fine September morning but with a steadily rising southwest wind. Bob carried on where he left off the previous afternoon and recorded 1.2.41 with Ged on 1.5.36 which again won the 1st Vet on Std award. The ride of the day probably belonged to Karen who knocked 5.03 off her old PB with l.7.29 for a new FotY.
