The Wolsey Road Club was founded in 1961 from members of the Suffolk District Association of the Cyclists' Touring Club and became a racing club offshoot. There are still several active founder members in the club today. Originally, Wolsey members had to be CTC members but in recent years this rule was dropped. However, most members do indeed belong to the CTC and take part in both clubs' activities, thus maintaining a strong link between the two.
Membership is currently around 40, but most of this number are active and participate extensively in the local racing scene, and throughout the country. The club promotes Open Time Trial events at 10 and 25 miles, and with other local clubs organise the midweek evening Time Trials.
The Wolsey RC has won renown for organising first class events and in the past has brought town centre racing to Ipswich and Felixstowe as well as promoting Road Races, Time Trials and Cyclo-cross events in the area.
Over the past 40 years, the club has achieved several national successes: winning team in the National 12 Hour event; high placings in the British Best All Rounder Competition; and produced two international riders.
