Club Time Trials

We assist in the running of the Ipswich Cycling Association time trials held at the near-by courses of Stowmarket, Crowfield and Henley. This season long series evening gives the newcomer a good introduction to the sport. All you need is to be a member of a registered club and for a small fee you can come along and have a go! Look under the events button for dates, times and courses.

Karen's thought of the month

Well, the over-indulgence of Christmas and New Year is past. I hope that you and your families had a good time.

Foremost on most racer's minds now is fitness and getting ready for the new season. If they haven't already been your priority, long base miles should be top of your list.

Whether you do your miles in the garage on your turbo or out in the fresh air (and sometimes it really is fresh!) is up to you but these miles do need to be done. Once this box is ticked, your foundations are ready for the top dressings of power and speed.

If you're like me you'll have found these base miles are easily passed by dreaming of new experiences/targets. It can be faster times, longer distances or pledging to do a sportive or two, anything to help you enjoy the time spent sitting on your bike.

I'm trying to fit in a couple of audaxes over the winter as the main season seemed to get very busy and I thought they would be a good way of doing the base miles in a different area. At the last audax I completed in December I met some regular audaxers, over-wintering timetriallists and one who had just completed the longest bike ride of their life so far! Everyone seemed happy to be out and enjoying the fresh air though it was a tad too crispy for most people's liking.

Go on, get on your bike and ENJOY!
